☀️ Happy Monday, UC neighbors!

Spring is finally starting to show up around here and so is a packed week of things to do. From bold new bites like Namkeen Hot Chicken in Union to a full lineup of local events, there’s plenty of reasons to get out and explore. We’ve got a great mix this week: a Broadway-inspired performance in Summit, flamenco dancing in Westfield, and a few family-friendly finds if you’re keeping things low-key.

Whether you’re planning a night out, looking for something new to try, or just easing into the season, this is a good week to stay local and see what’s around the corner. And with spring picking up, it’s only going to get busier from here.

New in Union

Namkeen Hot Chicken
1105 Morris Ave., Suite H, Union

Namkeen isn’t just another hot chicken spot—it’s built on family, flavor, and a whole lot of heat. Inspired by Nashville-style hot chicken but rooted in South Asian hospitality, this fast-growing concept started in a home kitchen where weekly family gatherings turned into full-on feasts. What began as experimentation—cayenne, turmeric, and a few bold ideas—quickly became something bigger: crispy, buttermilk-brined chicken layered with a signature blend of spices that hits both heat and depth.

The vibe here is simple: you’re welcome, you’re hungry, and you’re about to eat well. Expect juicy chicken sandwiches, tenders, and loaded sides, with heat levels you can control (or regret later—in a good way). Everything is thoughtfully prepared, but the real draw is the flavor—bold, comforting, and just a little addictive.

If you’re looking for something new that actually feels different, this is worth the stop. Just don’t say you weren’t warned about the spice.

🗳️Last Week’s Poll: How Are You Filing This Year?

Looks like most of you are leaving taxes to the pros. Hiring a CPA led by a wide margin with 60% of the vote (30 out of 50 responses)—no surprise there as tax season gets more complex each year.

Coming in second was using tax software, showing there’s still a solid group taking the DIY-but-digital route. A smaller number said someone else handles it for them, while only a handful are going fully old-school and filing on their own.

Takeaway? Whether it’s convenience, confidence, or just avoiding the headache, most of our UC readers are opting for help this year.

A word from Suzanne:

The big theme across Union County right now? Not enough homes, still too many buyers.

Inventory remains tight, which is keeping pressure on prices and making this a competitive market heading into spring.

Whether you’re thinking about buying or selling, timing and preparation matter more than ever this year. Suzanne can help you get ahead of the curve.

It’s not in Union County, but it might be one of the best spring outings nearby. Branch Brook Park in Newark is home to over 5,000 cherry blossom trees—more than Washington, D.C. at peak bloom. The collection dates back to the early 1900s, when philanthropist Caroline Bamberger Fuld funded improvements to the park, including the planting of cherry blossom trees.
